Welcome to November's Ezine designed to keep you on track towards your goal of impressing family, friends and yourself with your ski improvement.
Last month, we uncovered the man Harald Harb by exploring his background, experience and understanding.
To know Harb is to know an elite thinker, athlete and skier. Harb's level of excellence permeates through his books, videos and trainer training.
Now, lets assume you understand the Harb philosophy.
The next step is to understand why we specialise in five-day camps. So lets explore what goes on at Camp.
As I suspect you may be surprised by what we have to say!
Why offer five-day Camps?
What's unique about Harb Ski Camps www.harbskisystems.com is that we combine all the elements of ski improvement including equipment, understanding and movements into a one week camp.
The benefit to the camp participant is they can usually achieve in a week what would normally take multiple weeks.
But hey, it's not in our nature to blow our own trumpet.
So this is what one of our first ever clients had to say about what you can achieve in a week.
"Of all the ski improvement programs I have done, this was the easiest to understand and the most effective by far - truly revolutionary. The highlight of the course for me was the fact that for the first time in 25 years of skiing as a struggling intermediate I have comfortable and responsive boots. The alignment and footbeds made for me have made an enormous improvement in my ability and enjoyment." Steve H - Sydney
Bottom line: We offer weekly camp programs because we respect the fact that you need to maximise your ski improvement in the shortest time possible.
The time to be better is now! At the end of five days. Not when the season is ending after spending months of hard work and dollars!
How do skiers achieve such rapid results?
Each day we identify the number one issue to work on that will create the biggest breakthrough.
The types of issues that hold skiers back are.
Equipment related called alignment.
Movement related like twisting the foot to start the turn.
It may be an understanding issue like skiing with a wide stance because you were told this would improve your skiing in the past.
Or it may be something else completely different like how to deal with fear.
Bottom Line: To break new ground, something needs to change. We work out what is holding you back - and fix it.
Alignment - So why go to the trouble?
Lets face it, over a week it would be simpler for us to just ski with our clients, and not offer any alignment work.
Also when you consider Harald's teaching system, works phenomenally well as a standalone product, why do we offer alignment work?
If we didn't offer the option of alignment work, we would be holding skiers back from achieving what they want.
Why?
Because to improve your skiing in a week, requires everything thing in your favour.
You need to:
Step 1 - Have some level of fitness
Step 2 - Have access the right ski equipment
Step 3 - Have your equipment aligned (set up) for you properly
Step 4 - Use complimentary efficient ski movements
Step 1 is up to you.
However, the first chapter of Anyone Can be an Expert Skier 2 is a great starting point. We are more actively involved in steps 2 - 4.
At camp, we spend around three hours on your alignment set up.
Why do we spend this amount of time?
Well, the difference in skiing aligned versus misaligned is substantial.
The benefits to skiing aligned are:
Rapid improvement potential because locked misaligned muscles are freed to focus on efficient movements
More energy at the end of the day
Faster recovery rates
First day back-stiffness is gone when combined with efficient movements (speaking from experience here!)
Knee soreness is eliminated when combined with efficient movements
It's easier to balance in the bumps, powder, steeps and groomed
You look cooler as everything (ankles, knees, hips) 'stack up' each and every turn
Any doubts on equipment set up are removed, freeing your mind to focus on the next task that will create your next breakthrough
Every day on the slopes I see skiers being held back by their equipment and its set up.
Bottom line: Imagine two race cars.
The first car is in perfect condition. It's also set up for you perfectly. The second car has a few problems with it. The seat is really uncomfortable. The left rear tyre is flat. The engine is only firing on six out of eight cylinders.
Which car will bring you the most chance of success? Success in this case is improving your lap time. Obviously the first car gives you the best chance of success. This is also what skiing alignment does for you.
Being aligned offers you the best chance of success.
Incidentally, which car would you set the fastest time in? The car that is perfectly aligned for you or the misaligned car?
Well, you may be surprised to learn it may not be in the number one car.
Why not?
Because it will depend how you drive both of them.
What movements you use and how you approach each situation.
In other words the right alignment creates an opportunity.
However, success is determined by the way you move your body and how you approach each situation.
This is the secret behind our five-day camps.
By offering a package of solutions: - Equipment Selection - Equipment Set Up - Movement Instruction - Dealing with mental blocks (like fear)
We get the most out of you and you get the most out of your five days on snow.
